More and more patients are dying of liver cancer. Change now to avoid becoming the next victim!
A recent report released by the US National Cancer Institute showed that among the top ten deadliest cancers, liver cancer is killing the most people. Over the past 10 years, the number of deaths caused by liver cancer has increased by 2.2% (women) and 2.8% (men) every year. The main causes for liver cancer are cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C, alcohol abuse, diabetes and obesity. [1]
These figures imply that in the past decade, the treatment of liver diseases is simply unsatisfactory, and the methods currently used to prevent liver cancer are also ineffective. In fact, the current treatment methods are actually increasing patients’ risk of getting liver cancer!
The modern approach to preventing liver cancer is to treat liver diseases that might lead to liver cancer with a variety of drugs. Other than this, there are no other commonly used preventive measures for liver cancer. But how many people have come to realise that drugs themselves are harmful to liver cells and liver function? In fact, many cases of liver cancer are caused by the excessive use of drugs. Nowadays, we are often prescribed with different drugs to treat chronic diseases, however these sorts of drugs are chemicals, use in short term it can be very effective, but use in long term, they are all likely to harm liver cells. [2]
In order to reduce the chance of liver cancer and lower the death rate of liver cancer in the future, we must revaluate the current approach and find better ways to treat liver diseases. The top priority and main objective in treating liver diseases should be to protect liver cells, and enhance liver function! This is the only method to ensure a healthy liver and prevent liver cancer!
